December is a wonderful month filled with a flurry of activities: lots to prepare, places to go, plans to organize, surprises along the way, and things forgotten to be squeezed onto the list. Long lost relatives to be found, friends to make merry with and gatherings that are a must! And sometimes all at one time. And then there are the gifts: wonderfully exciting, beautifully wrapped, glorious extras for our lives that say, “You are loved.” And for every one of those there is a treasure hunt for that perfect special gift that will be exchanged. Or the perfect nightmare of not knowing the slightest what to get.

All of this requires great AMBITION, to tackle those lists of things to do, places to go, what to buy. Ambition to stretch the clock and create more time that includes the decorating, the special holiday occasions and the growing list of “to do” events in our lives.

Our ambition may also include wrapping up projects in our business. All of them having a deadline date of “by the end of the year”, which by now is approaching quicker than Santa Claus and his sleigh! It may require burning more midnight oil and candles than all the menorahs combined and you could probably do with a miracle or two as well because you’re behind.

December can be a magical time of year. Perfection in getting everything done and done on time is not the goal, in spite of what society says! The feeling of accomplishment and fulfillment at having moved closer to achieving our ambition, whatever it is, can become the gift we give ourselves. We need to appreciate what we have done and how far we have progressed.

So, as we make our New Year’s resolutions, we need to ask ourselves, “What do I truly desire?” To move forward on our path of progress we need to define our direction – the next steps – we want to take. It is a time to be open and honest with ourselves and to set goals that are our heartfelt desire. Remember the song, “If you don’t have a dream, how are you going to make your dream come true?” Personal satisfaction, enthusiasm and joy are key markers along the path of ambition; they will tell you if you are on the right track. If it feels good to you, it’s right for you. So go for it!
